One spring, a mother duck sat on her eggs. When the eggs hatched, little ducklings came out. But one duckling looked different. He was big and gray. The other ducklings laughed at him. They said, “You’re so ugly!” They didn’t play with him. Even the mother duck thought, “He’s not like the others.”

The ugly duckling felt sad and lonely. He left the farm and went away. He met some wild ducks. But they didn’t like him either. Then, hunters came and shot the wild ducks. The ugly duckling ran and ran.

He found an old woman’s house. The old woman had a cat and a hen. The cat could say “Meow,” and the hen could lay eggs. They didn’t like the ugly duckling because he couldn’t do these things. So, he left again.

Winter came. It was very cold. The ugly duckling swam in a pond to stay alive. One day, he froze in the ice. A kind farmer saved him.

When spring came, the ugly duckling saw beautiful white birds in a lake. He wanted to be with them. But he was afraid they would laugh at him too. He swam to them, ready for the worst.

To his surprise, the white birds smiled at him. They didn’t laugh! He looked at his reflection in the water. He wasn’t an ugly duckling anymore. He was a beautiful swan! He spread his wings and flew up to the sky with the other swans. Now, he was happy and loved.

春天来了，鸭妈妈蹲在蛋上孵蛋。当蛋孵出来时，一只只小鸭子破壳而出。但有一只小鸭子看起来不一样，他个头大，羽毛灰灰的。其他小鸭子都嘲笑他，说：“你太丑啦！”他们不跟他一起玩，连鸭妈妈也觉得：“他和别的小鸭子不一样。”

冬天到了，天气非常冷。丑小鸭在池塘里游泳求生，有一天他被冻在冰里，一位善良的农夫救了他。

春天来了，丑小鸭看到湖里有一群美丽的白鸟，他想和它们在一起，却又害怕被嘲笑。他朝白鸟游过去，做好了最坏的打算。

没想到，白鸟们朝他微笑，根本没有嘲笑他！他看向水中的倒影，发现自己不再是丑小鸭了——他变成了一只美丽的天鹅！他展开翅膀，和其他天鹅一起飞向天空。现在，他终于快乐起来，也被大家喜爱着。
